Key Research
The well-known effects of Ethanol (ethyl alcohol)
on the liver are due to accumulation of acetaldehyde,
a metabolite of ethanol which causes unwanted symptoms
related to the central nervous system. In a study of
the absorption and metabolism of ethanol (European
Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1991, 40: pp. 189-91),
Liv.52 prevents the binding of acetaldehyde to cell
proteins in the liver.
A more recent study published in the Indian Journal
of Experimental Biology, Vol. 37, August 1999, pp.762-766,

might be attributed to its ability to inhibit lipid
peridoxation.
